Kimi Nii was born in Hiroshima, Japan. At the age of nine, she moved with her parents to Brazil, settling in São Paulo.

She graduated from FAAP School of Fine Arts with a degree in Industrial Design, and since 1978 is dedicated to high temperature ceramics (1300°C) developing sculptures and utilitarian objects in her own atelier located in the district of Butantã.
